Who is qualified to teach us how to pray?

Jesus is.

Remember how the disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray and Jesus’ answer.

“Lord, teach us to pray.”  Jesus said to them, “When you pray, say…” (Luke 11:1, 2)

But why was it right for the disciples to ask Jesus this question?  Why should we listen to Him?

Why is Jesus qualified to teach us how to pray?  Why is He the best person for this job?

There are two reasons:

  1. Because Jesus is fully God.

As the Son of God, the second member of the Trinity, Jesus knows the kinds of prayers that please God because He is God.  He knows how God wants us to pray.

  1. Because Jesus is fully human.

As a man, Jesus prayed to His Father in heaven and because He never sinned His prayers were always perfect.  He is the perfect pray-er.  He can shows us how to pray to God.

Jesus really is the best person to teach us how to pray – so what does He says about how we are to begin our prayers?
