The Lord’s Prayer (Part 11) – We need protecting!

Powerpoint Pictures: Oven gloves; Mouth guard; Safety googles; Hard hat; Cycle helmet.

What are some of the things people use to protect themselves from hurting themselves?

Oven gloves – when taking hot things out of the oven.

Mouth guard – when playing rugby or boxing.

Safety googles – doing chemistry experiments at school.

Hard hat – working on or visiting a building site.

Cycle helmet – when riding your bike.

As we come to the end of the Lord’s Prayer, we see that protection is something that all of God’s people, everyone who is trusting in Jesus, needs.

Having taught us to pray that God will show how special He is, as people are saved by His Son Jesus and those who have been saved obey everything Jesus has commanded them.

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…” (Matthew 6:9-10)

He then teaches us to pray for three things we need each day.

We are to ask Him to provide for all our needs: “Give us today our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11).

We are to ask Him to forgive us for all our sins: “Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12)

Then we are to pray:

“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” (Matthew 6:13)

Jesus says pray that God would protect you.

Protect you from giving into the temptation to do what is wrong, to disobey God, to sin, and to help you do that by giving you the strength you need.
