The Lord’s Prayer (Part 6) – Treating God as Special

What are some of the things you need to handle with care?

Not because they are dangerous like a poisonous chemical, but because they are precious.

Like a newborn baby or an engagement ring or a hamster or some family heirloom.

They are precious and should be treat that way.

There’s something else we should handle with care and treat as precious, and that’s God’s name.

When we listen to Jesus teach us how to pray, we see that the first thing we are to pray for is that God’s Name would be treated as special.

He says pray like this…

“Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name…” (Matthew 6:9)

Now God’s name isn’t just what we call Him.  In the Bible, names reflect who a person was and is – their character.

God’s name reveals what He is like.

In the Bible He is given the name Creator and King and Shepherd and Saviour and Judge because He is these things.

God’s name is who He is.

And when we pray, Hallowed be your name, we are praying that we and people everywhere will treat God as special by praising Him and trusting Him.

When we praise God for who He is, we are hallowing His name.

So when we pray, let’s praise God for who He is for He is amazing!  Let’s hallow His name.
