There are a number of big words that sum up what the Bible teaches about what God has done for us, and it turns out that these words end in SHUN!

One of these big words is illustrated in lots of kids film.

In The Jungle Book*,* we see Baloo take a beating from Shere Khan in the place of Mowgli.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Dobby the house elf dies to rescue and save the lives of Harry, Ron and Hermione.

In The Lion King, Mufasa pushes Simba to safety before being trampled on by a herd of wildebeest.

Then in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Aslan exchanges his own life for Edmund’s and is killed by the Witch on the stone table.

In each of these examples someone takes the place of another, and this is what our big word is about, which answers the question:

How can God forgive our sins?

The big word that answers this question is Substitu-SHUN!

Substitution means that Jesus takes our place.

God can forgive our sins because Jesus has taken our place.  1 Peter 3:18 tells us that “Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.”

God can forgive our sins because Jesus the righteous one takes the place of us who are unrighteous.

Jesus is punished in our place for our sins and because of this we can be forgiven and accepted by God if we trust in Him.
