Can you tell me the names of these different types of bread? [Pitta; Naan; Chapati; Bagel; Crumpet; Muffin]

Now what’s bread got to do with the next part of the Big Bible Adventure?

Well it’s because the next part of the story begins in a place called the ‘House of Bread’ or Bethlehem during the time when Judges like Gideon and Samson led Israel.  In the ‘House of Bread’ there was a problem – there was no bread (there was a famine in the land).

So a man called Elimelech took his wife Naomi and two sons and went to a place called Moab.  While in Moab his two sons got married to Ruth and Orpah.  But then tragedy struck!  Elimelech and his two sons died leaving Naomi all alone with her daughters-in-law.

It was then that Naomi heard that the famine was over – there was bread in the ‘House of Bread!’ – it was time for Naomi to go home.

She told Ruth and Orpah to return to their families, “But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you.  Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.  Your people will be my people and your God my God.” (Ruth 1:16)

So Ruth went with Naomi to Bethlehem.  Since they had no food or money, Ruth went gleaning, which was when someone picked up the grain in a field that harvesters missed.  The field Ruth did this in belonged to Boaz, who when he heard Ruth’s story made sure there was plenty of food for her to pick up.

When Ruth told Naomi about Boaz, Naomi was excited because Boaz was a redeemer.  He was someone who could marry Ruth and care for her since her husband had died, and eventually they did, and later they would have a son called Obed.

When Obed grew up he got married and had a son called Jesse.  When Jesse grew up he got married and had lots of sons, one of whom was called David.

Now I wonder why we’re told about him?
