I want us to think about different types of rules or commands.

If the traffic lights are on red, what do your parents need to do? *[Stop the car!]*

Where do you find a ‘Go to Jail’ picture?  *[On a Monopoly Board]*; What do you do if your counter lands on this square? *[Go to jail]*.

Where might you find a ‘No Diving’ sign? *[At the swimming pool].*

How old do you have to be in order to use Facebook? *[13 years old].*

What’s wrong with this picture of a footballer handling the ball? *[It is against the rules for them to].*

Rules and laws are good.  They keep people safe.  Life works well and is most enjoyable when people obey the law.

Now with our Big Questions, we seen that God created us to glorify Him, and the way we glorify Him is by loving Him and obeying His commands and laws.

But what does God require us to do in His law?

That’s what the next big question is all about.  Let’s look at it now…

Q: What does the law of God require?

You see, God has given commands and laws to tell us how to live as those He has made and especially as those He had saved.

To the people of Israel, after He saved them from slavery in Egypt, He gave 10 commands that covered all of life.

Jesus summarised what they were to do like this.

“Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’  All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

This is what the law of God requires and tells us how God expects us all to live – to be people who love Him and who love other people.

So what is the answer to the question, “What does the law of God require?”
