The Lord’s Prayer (Part 9) – Provide what we need

Can anyone tell me the famous song Baloo from The Jungle Book sang? *[The Bare Necessities]*

For Baloo, if you know the song, the bare necessities of life were honey, fancy ants, paw paw and prickly pear.

What are they for us?

There are four basic needs we have – Air, Water, Food, Shelter.

I guess some of us would one other basic need – Wi-fi!

In the Lord’s Prayer, we’ve been taught so far by Jesus to pray that God will be glorified, will show how special He is, as people are saved by His Son Jesus and those who have been saved obey everything Jesus has commanded them.

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven…” (Matthew 6:9-10)

Because we know God as our Father, like children, Jesus tells us that we are also to confidently ask Him for three things we need each day.

The first thing we are to ask for is this: “Give us today our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11).

Bread symbolises our basic needs, and so what Jesus is telling us is that we are to ask God to give us everything we need to live each day.

But there’s something else we are doing when we pray give us today our daily bread.

We are asking God not only to provide what we need to live, but also to follow the Lord Jesus each day too.

So when we pray, let’s show our dependence upon God by asking Him to provide for all our needs.  Pray give us today our daily bread.
