The Big Read – Proverbs

Powerpoint Pictures: Pictures of person with two paths leading to two different destinations (A & B) before them

Which path would you choose?

Choice #1 – Path A leads to a beach; Path B leads to a field with land mines in.

Choice #2 – Path A leads to a puppy; Path B leads to a crocodile pit.

Choice #3 – Path A leads to a beautiful garden; Path B leads to a fiery furnace.

Choice #4 – Path A leads to a banquet; Path B leads to death.

In each scenario, there was a path that led to joy and life and blessing, and a path that led to danger and death.

In the Bible there is a book that is all about these two paths or these two ways to live – the book of Proverbs.

The book of Proverbs tells us about these two paths: Path A is called wisdom which leads to life, and Path B is folly or foolishness that leads to death.

Path A is the way of the Lord.

Path B is the way of the world.

The message of Proverbs is very simple.  It is saying to us, appealing to us, shouting at us, urging us: Choose Wisdom!

“Pay attention and listen to the sayings of the wise; apply your heart to what I teach, for it is pleasing when you keep them in your heart and have all them ready on your lips.  So that your trust may be in the LORD.” (Proverbs 22:17-19)

But only one man has perfectly chosen wisdom every moment of His life.

Jesus.

So choosing wisdom means choosing to trust the only One who is perfectly wise and asking Him to give us His wisdom.
