A prayer based on Revelation 21

<aside> 🙏🏻 How incredible it is, our Lord and our God, to dwell on where we will soon be and what we will soon see. The new heavens and the new earth. The holy city. The glorious bride. The perfect Husband. All things made new. We praise you that when the present world is renewed and transformed, everything that spoils it will be gone. There will be no evil and wickedness. There will be no mourning or crying or pain. Death shall be no more. What a joy is it to know this and a greater joy to know that when this takes place, we will know you in an even closer and more intimate way. Enjoying a perfect relationship with you in your presence for eternity. We thank you that all this is ours because your Son, Jesus Christ has secured this for us by winning that great victory over sin and Satan, death and hell when He died and rose again. We thank you that He won’t lose any who come to Him for salvation. God, we long for this day when sin and suffering will be no more and we will be with your perfectly. We long for this day when you will wipe away every tear from our eyes.

And we long for others to have this assurance and hope we enjoy because our faith in Christ. We thank you that your Word makes clear how important it is that people believing in your Son for the forgiveness of sin and eternal life. So we pray that many who have yet to do this, would hear the good news of the gospel and be saved from the wrath that is coming He returns. Show your mercy and grace while salvation is still available to anyone who would repent of their sins and trust in Jesus.

Lord, this future hope, we have as your people is wonderfully comforting, and we pray it would comfort those going through trials and experiencing suffering at this time. Comfort those who are sad, depressed, and anxious with this promise that you will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Comfort those who are sick and in pain, whether physical or mental with this promise of a future where suffering will be no more. Comfort those who are bereaved and mourning the loss of loved ones with this promise that death will be no more.

Not only do we ask for your comfort, we ask too for your Sprit’s help and protection to remain faithful to the end. We are aware of those who once professed to be followers of Jesus but who gave up when it became too tough. The cowardly who chose personal safety over faithfulness to Christ. The vile who have joined in with worshipping the false gods of this world. The murderers who have turned from loving your people to persecuting them. The sexually immoral who tolerate all kinds of sin in this area. The liars who continue to say that are followers of Jesus with their lips but by their actions show this to be false. Almighty God, we don’t want to compromise our faith. We don’t want to fall and fail you in any of these ways. Keep us then in your powerful and loving hands. Complete the good work you have started in us. Perfect our faith. For the glory and praise of our Saviour who loves us by giving Himself for us and who holds us fast. Amen.
