A prayer based on Hebrews 6.

<aside> 🙏🏻 Lord, It does feel at times like we are a ship at sea, tossed up and down by waves, and in danger of being shipwrecked as we sail towards heaven. The daily temptations, the suffering and adversity we experience, the awareness we have of opposition to Christ from the surrounding culture, makes us wonder whether we will make it to the end. They make us wonder if it is worth it because it so hard at times to follow you by denying ourselves and taking up our cross.

So, we thank you that you have provided for us an anchor. An anchor to keep us firm and secure in the faith. And this anchor is the hope we have in the gospel. We thank you that because Jesus has died, risen, and ascended into heaven, we can be sure that we will too because He is our forerunner. Even now we can be confident that he is preparing a place for us, and that one day we will follow Him through death to eternal life in heaven where we will be with Him, because this is what you have promised to all who trust in Him.

Thank you that all your promises are trustworthy and true because you are a faithful God who does not lie. Thank you that you have confirmed the gospel promise for us by an oath where you swore by yourself to keep it.

Father, we long that the many blessings we experience now by faith, we would experience by sight. We confess that waiting for Jesus to return is hard. And yet wait we must, because how devastating would it be if we didn’t and we missed out on the incredible hope you hold out to us. Help us to wait patiently, to not drift or backslide, and to endure to the end. May we not coast spiritually, but grow in love, in understanding - building on what we already know about you, our great and glorious and gracious God - and in obedience. Increase our appetite for hearing your Word read, taught, and preached, and to discovering more of your goodness by studying it for ourselves. Would this lead to us becoming more certain and assured of the hope that we have and persevering to the end.

Amen.
