A prayer based on Colossians 3:1-14.

<aside> 🙏🏻 Our gracious God, We praise You for all that You have done for us by sending Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to be our Saviour. We praise You that through faith in Him we have been rescued from the dominion of darkness and brought into His Kingdom. That though we were once dead in our sins You have made us alive with Him and You have forgiven all our sins.

We praise You for all that this means for us. That because Christ has died, so we have died. His death on the cross was our death, the death we deserve because of our sin. That because Christ has been raised, so we have been raised. His resurrection is our resurrection, As He was raised to new life, so have we. We have been born again. We are new creations. And that because Christ is now alive and sitting at Your right hand in heaven, so in Your sight, we are too. We praise You for the certain and secure future we have. That we now are citizens of heaven.

Yet we confess, loving and forgiving Father, that we don’t always live as though we are. Though we have died to the world and our old way life, and have been raised to live a new life, so often we don’t behave as if that is true. We give into temptation and act according to our old sinful nature instead living like Jesus. We acknowledge before You and seek Your forgiveness for our sinful actions. Those times when we are sexually immoral, impure, lustful, evil in our desires, and greedy. We also acknowledge before You and seek Your forgiveness for our sinful speech. Those times when there is anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language on our lips. Thank you that in Jesus all these sins and every other sin we commit are forgiven because His blood was shed on the cross to satisfy Your wrath at us because of what we have done against You.

We ask now that by Your Holy Spirit You would help us to put to death, to rid ourselves of these things that belong to our earthly nature and are not pleasing to You. As we grasp more and more what Jesus has done for us, His love, His kindness, His patience, His forgiveness, Holy Spirit would You change us to be like Him. Help us to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Help us to bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances we may have against one another. Help us to forgive as you have forgiven us. So that we please You more and live lives worthy of the Saviour who loved us and gave Himself for us.

Amen.
