Powerpoint Pictures: Coffin, Urn, Sea, Han Solo frozen; Mummy; Tomb cut out of rock

In this country, when someone dies, two things usually happen to the person’s body. Either it is buried or it is cremated. Sometimes the ashes are scattered in a place special to the person.

Occasionally other things might happen to the body. If the person was very rich, they might get their body cryogenically frozen – a bit like what happened to Han Solo.

What did the Egyptians do? Particularly to the Pharaoh’s. They mummified them.

At the time of Jesus, if you could afford it, you might be buried in a tomb.

Now after Jesus died, one of His followers, Joseph from a town called Arimathea, come to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body in order to bury it.

Pilate had to make sure Jesus was dead, so checked with the centurion, who had made sure He was dead by stabbing his side with a spear.

Pilate handed Jesus’ body over to Joseph.

“So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.” (Mark 15:46)

Jesus really was dead.

His body was laid in a tomb.

So is this the end of the story?
