Catch that Chicken.mpg

What happens in the video?  A policeman tries to a catch a person dressed up as a chicken in order to arrest them.  But he wasn’t particularly successful was he!

This won’t be the case in this next part of the Big Bible Adventure where we see a number of parts of the story come together.

Can you remember what has happened already in the story of how Jesus was killed? There’s been:

PLOTTING – The Chief Priests and religious leaders plotting to kill the king – King Jesus.

BETRAYING – Judas offering to help them with their plot to have Jesus killed.

RUNNING – Jesus telling the disciples that when people come to arrest him and have him killed, they will all run away.

PRAYING – Jesus saying that He will go to the cross so that people can be saved.

All of these things come together in the next part of the story as Jesus, unlike the chicken, is caught and arrested.

Judas knew where Jesus and His disciples were going to be.  He knew the garden where they liked to pray.  And so he brings with him an armed mob ready to arrest Jesus.

“Just as [Jesus] was speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, appeared.  With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests, the teachers of the law, and the elders.” (Mark 14:43)

The plot was about to come to an end.  The betrayal was about to happen.  The disciples were about to run.  Jesus was about to show that He really did mean it when He prayed, “Not my will, but yours be done!”

Judas goes up to Jesus and kisses him.  The sign to the mob that this was the man they were to arrest.  Jesus willingly goes with them.  As he does, the disciples run away, just as Jesus said they would.

Jesus has been caught.  He’s been arrested.

But will he be found guilty of committing a crime?
