Play a game of ‘Do This, Do That’ or ‘Heads or Tails’.

In both of these games, my voice had authority.  I said something to you and you did it.  In the next part of the Big Bible Adventure we’re going to see someone whose voice had real authority.

There were some fishermen named Simon and Andrew who were doing what fishermen do, when something incredible happened.

“As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen, “Come follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” (Mark 1:15-17)

Jesus tells these two men to follow Him – to get up out of the boat; to give up being fishermen and start following Him about; and to do a new job of telling people about Him.

Would you do that if someone came into this room and told you to follow them?

But the incredible thing is that: “At once they left their nets and followed him.” (Mark 1:18)

Immediately, they get up, give up their jobs and follow Jesus.  Jesus’ voice has such authority that when people hear it, they obey it, and will give up things to do so.  That is because Jesus is no ordinary person.  He is God Himself.

Jesus’ authority to call people to follow Him is another signpost pointing to who He is.
