Can you think of some of the things that people miss? [Bus; Flight; Train; Shop being open; TV show; Exam]

We’re going to meet someone who almost missed the most important thing of all – he almost missed out on getting to heaven.

When Jesus died on the cross, next to Him were two thieves, one on His left and one on His right, who also were being crucified.

Now one of the thieves joined in mocking and insulting Jesus like the people who passed by, who didn’t believe that Jesus was God or that He was the King God sent to save His people.

But one of the thieves did believe that Jesus was God and that He was the King who saves.

Look at what He said to Jesus:

“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42)

Jesus answered him:

“I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43)

This man did not miss out on going to heaven when he died, because he put his trust in Jesus and Jesus promised him that there was where he would be.

How could Jesus promise this?

How could Jesus say to this man who had done things that were wrong, you’re going to heaven because you believe in me?
