Does anyone want to come and pull this cracker with me? Inside of a cracker you normally find three things: a joke, a gift, and a crown.
Crackers are great to have at Christmas because they help understand what Christmas is all about.
An angel had appeared to Mary and gave her the news that she was going to have a baby and this baby was going to be the Saviour, the King, and God Himself. This baby is God keeping all the promises He made to His people that we find in the Old Testament.
When it was time, after travelling with her husband Joseph to Bethlehem, Mary gave birth to a baby, which she laid in a manger, and gave Him the name Jesus. Later that day, an angel appeared to a group of shepherds nearby and said to them:
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)
Now this is where a cracker is really helpful because the three parts of the cracker help us to understand what the angel said:
The joke reminds us that the birth of Jesus brings great joy. Jesus is good news!
The gift reminds us that the birth of Jesus is a gift for everyone. Jesus is good news for all people.
The crown reminds us that the birth of Jesus is the birth of the King. Jesus is good news because He is the King who saves people.
