Each of these footballers have changed sides.

In the next part of the Big Bible Adventure we see someone else who has changed sides.

Because the people of Israel did not believe that God would keep His promise to give them the land of Canaan, their punishment was to wander around in the desert for 40 years until that generation including Moses and Aaron had died.

When the 40 years were over, the people of Israel had a new leader, Joshua, and it was now time for God to keep His promise.

Like Moses, Joshua sent spies into Canaan (only two this time), to check it out, especially focussing on the city of Jericho.

While the two spies were in Jericho, they stayed with a woman called Rahab. Rahab had heard about God and what He had done. Rahab said to them: “I know that the LORD has given this land to you… the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.” (Joshua 2:9, 11)

While the spies were with Rahab, the king of Jericho heard about the spies and sent guards to Rahab’s house. Rahab hid the spies on the roof of her home and sent the guards looking for them in the opposite direction.

Why would Rahab do that?

It is because she had changed sides. She had replaced her Jericho shirt with an Israel shirt. As she helped the spies escape, she said to them, “When you take the city, save me and my family!” The two spies said they would if she tied a scarlet cord to her window.

The spies then hid in the hills before returning to Joshua and the people of Israel.

The last time spies return, the people failed to believe that God would keep His promise. Will it be different this time?
