Powerpoint Pictures: The question: How long is a minute?

How long is a minute?

When I say go, I want you to try and guess how long a minute is.  When you think a minute has passed, I want you to put your hand up.

[Once all the children have put their hand up; tell them who was correct in their guess or closest to being correct]

Did the minute seem to pass slowly?

Time can feel like it is going very slowly.

After Jesus ascended to heaven, after He went away, His followers got on with the job of telling people about Him.

In Jerusalem.

In Judea and Samaria.

In the whole world – to the ends of the earth.

And this is what is continuing to happen today.

Yet one day, sometime in the future, something amazing is going to happen.

Just before His death, Jesus told His disciples that He was going to leave them.  This made them sad.  He then said to them, “Do not let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God; trust also in me.  In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you.  I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-3)

Jesus said He was going back to heaven but one day He is going to return.

Jesus will come back to earth.

When He does, He will take all His people, all those who follow Him, to live with Him in heaven – a place where there will be no sadness, or pain, or anything that would make them cry.

But this final event hasn’t happened yet.

We are still waiting for this to happen.

So far it has been 2000 years.

Yet we can be certain that He will return and if we are one of His followers He will take us to heaven to live with Him forever.
