The Big Read – Job

It is easy to believe God is good when everything is okay.  It is easy to trust God when life is going well.  But if you lost everything, would you still believe God is good and trust Him then?

Would you still trust Him and obey Him if you lost all your wealth, your possessions, the things that are precious to you?

Would you still believe He is good if you lost your health, and were suffering terribly?

In the Bible there is a book about someone who lost his wealth and health and still trusted God.  Job was that someone.  God allowed the devil to take away his wealth and his health.  But losing these things did not stop Job from trusting God.

After losing his wealth, Job said, “Naked I come from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall depart.  The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.” (Job 1:21)

How was Job able to trust God after losing these things?

It was because Job believed and trusted in a true and better Job.  Job lost a lot, but he didn’t lose everything.  He didn’t lose his wife.  He didn’t lose his life.  He didn’t lose his relationship with God.  But the One who Job was trusting in did.

Jesus lost everything.

He lost His wealth.  He lost His health.  He lost His friends.  He lost His life.  He even lost His relationship with God.  Jesus lost all these things when He died on the cross.

Jesus lost everything but He never stopped trusting His Father.  Jesus trusted His Father’s plan that by dying in the place of sinners He would save them.  He trusted His Father would raise Him from the dead to eternal life.

If we are trusting in Jesus as our Saviour and Lord, we can lose everything we have, including our life, and still praise God and believe He is good, because we know that we have something that we can never lose – the hope of eternal life with Jesus in heaven.
