The letter of Hebrews is a letter that is all about which or who is better.

The answer is clear: Jesus is better.

This letter was written to Christians who were thinking about giving up following Jesus and going back to being ordinary Jews.

But the writer of Hebrews says “Don’t give up being a follower of Jesus because Jesus is better!”

And to show that Jesus is better, he compares Jesus with some famous things we read about in the Old Testament.  He says that Jesus is better than the prophets because He is better able to tell us about God because He is God.  He says that Jesus is better than the angels because He is the Son of God the angels worship.  He says Jesus is better than Moses because He isn’t just the leader of God’s people, He is the creator of God’s people.  He says Jesus is better than Joshua because He leads God’s people to eternal rest in the Promised Land of heaven.  And He says Jesus is better than Aaron the High Priest because He offers a perfect sacrifice that can take away sin.

Now because Jesus is better, we should stick with Him.  But what can help us to do that? “We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” (Hebrews 2:1)  We need to spend time remembering who Jesus is and what He’s done, that He is better

Jesus is better – so stick with Him.
