Powerpoint Pictures: Diamond Ring; Kitchen Utensils

Soon it will be my wife’s birthday, and I was wondering whether you could help me to decide what present I should get her.  I want this present to tell her how much I love her.  Now I need to decide between a diamond ring and some kitchen utensils.  Which one do you think will say to her ‘I love you’ best?  Why?  Do you think she would be pleased if I gave her the kitchen utensils?

The reason why this world is a mixture of good and bad is because Adam and Eve disobeyed God and the punishment they were given was to live in a world that is damaged as they were forced to leave the garden of Eden.

After a time they had children.  Firstly, a son named Cain who was a farmer, and then another son named Abel who was a shepherd.

Like at harvest time, where we thank God for all the good things He gives us, by giving back to Him, by helping others who He loves who are need, Cain and Abel each gave something to God (an offering).  A gift to thank Him and show much they loved Him.

Cain gave a couple of spuds he had grown.  Abel gave the firstborn of his flock and the fat portions (which are the best part of the lamb).  Do you think God was pleased with Cain’s offering?  No, Cain didn’t show that he loved God.  Do you think God was pleased with Abel’s offering?  Yes, Abel showed he loved God.

This made Cain angry.  God told Cain to do what is right, to offer the best he had.  But Cain didn’t listen to God and he did what was wrong.  “Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.”  And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him” (Genesis 4:8).

Like Adam and Eve, Cain didn’t listen to God and he didn’t obey god.  As a result more sadness came into the world, as he commits the first murder.  What happened to God’s promise to send someone who would put the world back together again?  It seems like the world is getting worse not better.
