Titus 3:9-11
v9: There are "necessary questions," which are needed to "expand useful knowledge," and that "need to be discussed and clarified." But there are also questions which are "insignificant or useless," and "lead neither to God's glory nor to the building up of others." It is the latter kinds that "must be avoided," as these are more likely to distract and unsettle the church and hinder the progress of the gospel. May God give us the discernment we need to distinguish between necessary questions and those which must be avoided.
v10-11: Those who accept "false doctrines and spreads them" must be rejected because of the damage they can do within a local church. But "we must not give up on them easily and reject them quickly, but spend sufficient time [seeking] their restoration." If they "will not be reclaimed by warnings, but remain stubborn in their sins and errors," they must put out of membership to preserve the purity of the church. "By God’s blessing, such discipline may become effective in reforming the offender, or if not it will leave them even more inexcusable in condemnation."
