Leviticus 2
v1-10: This offering was a way for God’s people to declare “their dependence on God, their thankfulness to him, and their expectation from him as their owner and generous benefactor, who gives life, breath, and food to everyone.” Part of the offering “was to be burned on the altar as a memorial portion, that is, as a sign of their need to remember God’s generosity to them in giving them all things richly to enjoy.” We like them, must not forget that we are dependent on God for all things, including our salvation, expressing our thankfulness by our lives lived for Him.
V11-16: These offerings must not contain yeast. “We are to take this as a warning to guard against those sins that spoil the acceptableness of our spiritual sacrifices” such as pride and hypocrisy that “rise up like yeast.”
