Joshua 14

v1-5: The land was allocated by the casting of lots. "Everyone could not go and settle where they pleased." There was an orderly "division of the land of Canaan among the sons of Jacob." By casting lots "they looked to God and his wisdom and sovereignty, believing him to be more qualified to allocate the land than they themselves." It is according to God's will, that "Christ, our Joshua, gives eternal life."

v6-9: Caleb "led a life that wholeheartedly conformed with the divine will with an eye to divine favour." He "kept close to his God-given responsibilities and sincerely aimed at God's glory in it." This was seen and acknowledged by Moses. "This shows us that those who follow God fully... will receive both credit and comfort from it... and the reward of it forever in the heavenly Canaan."

v10-15: "While we live, it is God who keeps us alive. He protects us by his power from death," and "the longer we live, the more aware we should be of God's goodness to us in keeping us alive," seeing "his care in prolonging our weak lives, and his patience in prolonging our sinful lives."
