Hebrews 5:11-14
v11: Sometimes we are slow to learn about Christ because of our “natural weakness.” But other times, we are slow to learn, because our sinfulness makes us “slow to understand and slow to believe.”
v12: “God takes notice of the time and helps we have for gaining knowledge of Scripture.” After we have learned the basic truths of the gospel, “that are clear and necessary to learn,” we are to go forward and grow in our understanding of God’s Word and be able to “teach others, if not in a public capacity, then in a private one.” Let’s not be those who should be mature but are “children and infants” in our understanding.
v13-14: Those who are infants in the faith, need to be fed with milk, that is, to “be shown the plainest truths... in the plainest way.” Those who are adult in the faith, need solid food, to be taught other doctrines to strengthen and grow their faith. Ministers need wisdom “to rightly divide the word of truth,” to give to infants and the mature what is needed to nourish their spiritual lives.
