Colossians 4:2-6

v2: Prayer is not an optional part of the Christian life.  "Christians should grasp every opportunity for prayer and choose the best times for it, times that are least liable to disturbance from other things."  In every prayer, "thanksgiving must have a part."

v3-4: The church must pray for opportunities for pastors and other gospel workers to preach the gospel.  They must pray also for them that they "would neither be discouraged" from this vital work, "nor be driven from it" by present or future suffering.

v5: We need to act wisely toward those outside the church.  Making sure that we don't adopt behaviour that is worldly and sinful, but also that we don't "do anything that might increase their prejudice" against the gospel.

v6: "Although we may not always be talking about grace, we must always talk with grace, and even if the subject of our speech is ordinary, there must still be a note of godliness about it."  Gracious speech is especially needed when we have opportunities to given reasons for our faith.
