Acts 6
v1-7: Leaders, especially those set aside to give themselves wholly to serve as pastors, are to be committed to prayer and the ministry of the Word. The Word and prayer "are the means by which fellowship with God and his people is maintained. He speaks to them through the word, and they speak to him through prayer." Pastors "must continually be either... equipping themselves for... or employing themselves in them, either publicly or privately... They must be God’s mouthpiece to the people in the ministry of the word, and the people’s mouthpiece to God in prayer," for these are the means through which God convicts or converts sinners and builds up and encourages the saints.
v8-15: "Wisdom and holiness make a person's face shine," because these things glorify God. Yet they won't protect a person from being treated in shameful and dishonourable ways. Stephen was falsely charges with speaking against Moses, but if he was guilty of this, "God would not have put Moses' honour [a shining face] on him."
