2 Thessalonians 2:13-15

v13: It is discouraging to hear of people abandoning the faith.  The opposite is also true.  "It is a matter of great encouragement and joy" to hear of saints persevering in the faith, and this should produce in us thankfulness to God, because the reason for their perseverance is that God has chosen them "for complete and eternal salvation from sin" and "has loved them with an eternal love."

v14: The gospel calls and invites people to salvation, and this is "made effective" in those who are chosen for salvation "by the inner operation of the Spirit."

v15: Our election and calling "should spur us on and lead us to commit ourselves" with "greatest determination and diligence" to stand firm in our Christian profession, and to hold to the teaching and duties of the gospel as taught the inspired apostles that we find in Scripture.
