2 Peter 3:8-9

v8: From our perspective “there is a great deal of difference between a day and a year, and a great deal more between one day and a thousand years.” From God’s, “who inhabits eternity, in which there is no succession,” perspective, “there is no difference. All things past, present, and future are always before him, and the delay of a thousand years cannot be so much to him as the delaying of anything for a day or an hour is to us.” Do not be ignorant of this truth. Do not make the mistake in thinking God is like us.

v9: God is merciful and does not take any pleasure in the death of sinners. His patience in not yet coming to judge the world, “is giving more time to his own people… many of whom have not yet been converted.” He “does not want any of these to perish; he wants them all to repent.” The reason why Jesus has not yet returned is because “the full number of his elect” have not yet been brought into His kingdom.
