2 Peter 1:16-18

v16: We can be sure that the gospel - the good news that Christ is able to save completely from the guilt and filth of sin all who come to God through him - is not “a cleverly invented story” nor “the words of one with a demon,” nor “the invention of a group of people who dreamed up a cunning [and] deceitful plan” because Jesus on occasions “revealed himself to be God,” including one significant time to Peter, James, and John. They have “testified about what they saw with their eyes” and “heard with their ears,” for at that time “there was an audible voice from heaven.”

v17: “Just as he requires us to give honour and glory to his Son by confessing him to be our Saviour, so he gives glory and honour to our Saviour by declaring him to be his Son.” By doing so, God made clear that He “is pleased with Christ and with us in him.”

v18: When Peter, James, and John, heard the voice from heaven, God opened their ears to hear what was said, but also their understanding, so that they could receive what He wanted them to know. “Blessed are those who not only hear but also understand, who believe the truth and feel the power of the voice from heaven.”
