2 Peter 1:12-15

v12-13: “We need to be reminded of what we already know so that we do not forget it,” and to be “firmly established in our belief of the truth, so that we may not be shaken by every wind of doctrine.” A key aspect of a pastor’s ministry is to be “the Lord’s remembrancers,” by reminding the members of the church of the great doctrines of the gospel, “that Jesus is the Christ, that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, that those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ shall be saved, and all that believe in God must be careful to maintain good works.” They must also remind them of God’s promises, His “commitment to do good to his people,” and their duty to obey His commands.

v14: “Just as at night we take off our clothes and put them to one side, so at death we must take off our bodies, and they must be put in the grave until the morning of the resurrection.”

v15: What a wonderful gift the written word of God is to God’s people. It means that though the apostles have all died, we can know the things that God has spoken through them, and recall them at any time by opening up the Scriptures.
