1 Peter 3:13-17

v13-14: “To suffer for righteousness’ sake,” whether that be for a truth of Scripture or a duty which Christ commands, “is the honour and happiness of a Christian.” What we will gain is “much greater than the loss” that we experience.

v15: Being willing to suffer hardships in this world will invite and encourage others to ask “what kind of hope you have,” that makes you willing to do this. When they ask, we are “to be always ready...to be able and willing to give an answer, or make a defence of the faith” we profess and have reasons available that will enable us “to speak up for [our] Christian faith.”

v16-17: “It is sometimes the will of God that good people suffer for doing good.” It is a sad condition “when sin and suffering meet together” in a person, because “sin makes sufferings extreme, unprofitable, comfortless, and destructive.”
