What do the following animals have in common?  A polar bear, an elephant, a rhino, a panda, an orang-utan, and a snow leopard.

You can adopt one of them.

For only £3 a month you can adopt one of these animals.

You can make them part of your family.  Right?  No.  They might call it adoption, but it’s not really.  Your money just helps to protect these animals from extinction.

A real adoption would be if one of these animals was made part of your family.  They came and lived with you and called you either “Mummy” or “Daddy”.

However in the Bible we are told about a real adoption, and this adoption helps us to answer a really important question, which is: “Why do we call God “Father” when we pray?

The answer is Adop-SHUN!  God makes sinners His children.

It is possible for us to become part of God’s family and be one of His children.  For God to do this, to adopt us, cost Him a lot more than £3 a month.  It cost Him His Son.  Jesus had to die on the cross to make it possible for sinners like you and me to become God’s children and to call Him “Father”, and when we put our trust in Jesus, we are adopted into God’s family.

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12)

When we trust in Jesus an adoption takes place.  God makes us who are sinners, His children and part of His family.

Adop-SHUN!  God makes sinners His children.
