The Apostles’ Creed (Part 4) – The Father

<aside> 💡 Here’s a question I want you to think about for a moment. For a person to be a father, what do they need? You might say - character traits - like patience. You might say - money - children are expensive - cost mummy and daddy's lots of money. And though those things are good - not essential. For a person to be a Father they need to have either a Son or a daughter.

As we look at the Apostles’ Creed, this summary of what the Bible teaches, which gives us all the key truths that Christians are to believe.

We see that they believe that God is a Father.

”I believe in God the Father.”

What must that mean?

That He has a Son or a daughter - and He does - the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus is God’s Son - that’s why God is called Father.

God has always been called Father because Jesus has always and eternally been the Son.

When Christians say they believe in God, they believe in the God who is Father, Son, and also Holy Spirit.

That is the God they believe in.

And they especially show that they believe that God is the Father when they do something.

When they pray.

How do our prayers start? Our Father - that’s how Jesus taught His followers to pray.

We pray to God who is not just the Father of Lord Jesus Christ.

We’re allowed to call Him our Father too.

Jesus saved us from our sins by dying and rising again so that we can call God, “Father.”

“But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name.” (John 1:12)

Jesus makes those those who trust in Him God’s children and tells them to call God our Father.

So, Christians are those who believe that God is the Father, and because of Jesus is their Father.
