The Big Read – 2 Timothy

Powerpoint Pictures: iPod

Think about something that is precious or valuable to you?

Example: An iPod.

What do you do with it?  You use it – to play music and games.  You look after it – you put it in a protective cover so it doesn’t get damaged.  You tell others about it – how great it is.

There is something even more precious and valuable that an iPod.  The Gospel.  The good news that Jesus has destroyed death and gives eternal life to those who trust in Him.

What do you do with the gospel?  That’s what 2 Timothy is all about.  In this letter Paul writes to Timothy telling him what to do with the gospel.

He says “Use it!”

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of.” (2 Timothy 3:14)  Keep trusting in Jesus.  Don’t give up.  It’s the only way you’ll be saved.

He says “Look after it!”

“Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you – guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.” (2 Timothy 1:14)  Protect it.  Guard it.  So that it doesn’t change.

He says “Tell it!”

“Preach the Word.” (2 Timothy 4:2)  Pass it on like a relay baton to other believers who will use it, look after it, and tell it.  Preach it to people who haven’t heard about Jesus so that can be saved by trusting in Him.

Use it.  Look after it.  Tell it.  And do this even when it is difficult!
