A short talk for a Catechesis slot in a church service.

• Don’t talk to strangers
• Stop, look, listen, think
• Don’t play with matches
• When you hear the fire alarm go to the assembly point
• Don’t run along the side of a swimming pool
• Don’t sit so close to the TV because your eyes will go square

These are rules to keep you alive, to keep you safe, and to keep you healthy.

Now the Bible tells us that there are two ways of living in this world, but only one of them leads to eternal life, and that’s the life of trusting and following the Lord Jesus Christ.

The other way of living, that of rejecting, ignoring, and disobeying Jesus, is the way that leads to death and hell.

It is important for those who trust in Jesus, know how to live as His followers on this way of life.

Someone summed up how we are to live like this.

<aside> 💬 “The way of life is this: First, you shall love God who made you. And second, love your neighbour as yourself, and do not do to another what you would not want done to you.”

They summed up the way of life as loving God and loving your neighbour because that’s how Jesus summed up the way of life.

<aside> 📖 Jesus said in Matthew 22:37-39: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself.”

Following Jesus on the way of life means loving the God who made us and has saved us by being devoted to Him in our affections and our actions, and loving our neighbour as we do ourselves by doing to them as you want them to do to you.

Jesus says we are to follow Him on the way of life by loving God and loving our neighbour because that is how He lived!
