God had given the people of Israel rules to keep them safe.

One of the rules was about carrying the Ark of the Covenant, which was a large box containing the 10 commandments God gave to Moses, that told the people how to live God’s way.

The Ark was a sign that God was with them.

After Saul died and David became King, David wanted to show that he loved God and that he wanted to obey Him, so he decided to bring the Ark to Jerusalem, where his palace was.

But David didn’t realise that there were rules about how the Ark was to be carried, including one that said you must not touch it.

So David loaded the Ark onto a cart pulled by oxen and began to make the journey to Jerusalem. On the way, the cart hit a bump in the road and the Ark began to slide off when Uzziah put his hand out to stop it.

Immediately Uzziah died.

David was puzzled. He didn’t realise what they did wrong. He left the Ark behind in a small town and returned to Jerusalem where he discovered that the Ark was only to be carried on poles. Following God’s Word, David was then able to bring the Ark into Jerusalem.

After this, God appeared to David and made him some amazing promises.

“When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.” (2 Samuel 7:12)

One of David’s sons would become king.

“I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.” (2 Samuel 7:13)

One of David’s sons would be king for ever.

Which of David’s son would be this King?
