Listen to the following sounds.  Can you tell me what has just finished? [School, Football Match, Eastenders, Exam, Summer]

Now it looks like we’ve come to the end of the story of the Bible.

God made King David a promise about a King who would reign forever.  This King would always love and obey God and save His people.  And we’ve been looking for who this King is.

We saw that it wasn’t David, nor his son Solomon.

After Solomon died and Israel split into the northern kingdom Israel and the southern kingdom Judah, we saw that the king wouldn’t be from the northern kingdom because all those kings disobeyed God right until the end when Assyria invaded and Israel was no more.

But would He be one of the kings of Judah?

No.

Although there were some good kings who did love and obey God, none of them did so perfectly.  Most didn’t at all, even when God sent prophets to warn them about what they were doing.

And so what happened to Israel happened to Judah.

“The whole Babylonian army, under the commander of the imperial guard, broke down the walls around Jerusalem.” (2 Kings 25:10)  The Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem.  “So Judah went into captivity, away from her land.” (2 Kings 25:21)

It looks like it’s the end.

God’s people are scattered.  Some are killed, other were captured and taken to Babylon.  The Promised Land was left in ruins.  The kings are no more.  The Saviour God had promised is nowhere to be seen.

How is God going to keep His promises now?  Have we come to the end of the story?
