The Apostles’ Creed (Part 2) – I Believe
The Apostles’ Creed is a great summary of what the Bible teaches.
In just over 100 words, it gives us all the key truths that Christians are to believe.
And the Creed begins with a reminder of the importance of believing.
The opening two words are: “I believe…”
What does it mean to believe?

💡 Imagine that you need to have a major operation, like a heart transplant.
There are some important things that you will need to believe before you have the operation.
You’ll need to believe that the surgeon knows how to do the operation. You’ll need to be sure that he’s been through all the necessary training in medical school and has been taught how to do the procedure.
You’ll also need to believe that he is actually able to do the operation. To be confident that he is able to put the knowledge of doing the operation into practice and perform the surgery successful.
But believing is more that be sure that the surgeon knows how to do the operation and is able to do it. Believing means being willing to get on the table and allow him to cut you open and perform the surgery. To actually trust him with your life.

When Christians say “I believe…” their belief is the getting on the operating table kind of belief.
They know what all the truths contain in the rest of the Creed mean. They have knowledge of them.
They also believe that the truths found in the Creed are true.
However, that’s not enough, because we’re told in the Bible that even the demons believe that these things are true.
When Christians say “I believe…” they are saying that they know what is contained in the Creed AND that they believe this to be true AND that they are trusting that they are in such a way that it changes them and shapes the way they live their lives.
As we start to look at the truths found in the Creed, I want you to ask yourself:
Do you know this?
Are you convinced this is true?
Does it affect the way you live? Does it actually make a different to your life?
Because those who truly believe the Apostles’ Creed will be changed by it.
